Our Board is responsible for the strategic direction and overseeing the management of Funds SA.
The Funds SA Board comprises of seven directors, each bringing diverse corporate experience and skill sets.
Mr Paul Laband
Mr Laband has significant portfolio and investment experience from a career in investment management and asset consulting. His former roles include; Head of National Asset Management (NAM); Head of Asset Consulting at Towers Perrin Australia and
Russell Investment Group (Australia) and Managing Director Asset Management at Abbey Life Investment Services in the UK, along with his most recent management roles at UniSuper as Head of Public Markets (listed asset classes both domestically and globally) and subsequently Head of Strategic Tilting, contribute to his role on the Funds SA Board. He is currently a Board Observer at ReturnToWorkSA and member of Investment Committees for Telstra Super and the Salvation Army (Southern Territory).
Mr Bill Griggs
Mr Griggs brings significant leadership and board experience; with expertise in corporate governance, people and culture, superannuation, investment, insurance and a particular interest in managing/coping during times of uncertainty, and in evidence-based decision making. Bill is currently the Chair of the Motor Accident Commission, Director and Chair, Member Services Committee of Return to Work SA, Director and Chair, Member Services Committee of Super SA, Director of Southern Select Super Corporation Board and Director of Griggs EMS Pty Ltd.
Ms Jane Jeffreys
Ms Jeffreys is an experienced company director with extensive board, executive and consulting experience in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She has expertise and understanding of strategy, financial management, people and culture, technology and marketing and communication. Jane is currently a Director of Jane Jeffreys Consulting and Iocane Pty Ltd. She is also Chair of the West Beach Trust, Gaming Care, Guildhouse and Data Action Pty Ltd.
Mr Robert Patterson
Mr Patterson has had a long career in the private sector; with experience and expertise across investment management, governance and accounting gained in executive roles with Argo Investments Limited, including Company Secretary, Chief Executive and Managing Director. Robert is currently a Non-Executive Director of Lawguard Management Pty Ltd, Investment Committee member of The Law Society of South Australia, Coopers Brewery Foundation Incorporated, Westminster School Foundation Incorporated and Ardmillan Place Nominees Pty Ltd.
Ms Kathryn Presser
Ms Presser an extensive background in all aspects of financial, risk and management accounting. She has widespread company secretarial experience in public listed and private companies in a wide range of industries and in particular over 18 years’ in finance executive roles at Beach Energy Limited. She also has broad governance and legislative experience through company director positions. Kathryn is currently a Director of KP Advisory Pty Ltd, Police Credit Union SA & NT, and the South Australian Government Financing Authority (SAFA), and Council Member of the University of Adelaide and Walford Anglican School for Girls. She is also the Independent Chair of the Department of Treasury and Finance Risk and Performance Committee.
Ms Judith Smith
Ms Smith provides extensive knowledge and experience in investment and funds management, with a strong governance and risk focus. During her career, Ms Smith has worked in significant roles responsible for evaluating and investing in listed and unlisted companies, and is currently the member of a number of boards and investment committees. Judith is a Non-Executive Board Member of Scale Investors Limited; Committee Member of South Australian Venture Capital Fund; Non-Executive Director and Chair, Audit & Risk Committee of Universal Biosensors Inc.; Non-Executive Director of LUCRF Trustees; Non-Executive Director and Chair, Risk & Audit Committee of Acorn Capital Investment Fund Limited.
Ms Leah York
Ms York was appointed to the Board upon the nomination of the South Australian Government Superannuation Federation. She is currently a deputy Director (member) of the Super SA Board (and Southern Select Superannuation Corporation Board) which is responsible for administering the major superannuation schemes of the State Government agencies and statutory authorities. She is also President of the South Australian Public Sector Superannuation Federation, and a Member of the Super SA Member Services Council.
