Our Board is responsible for strategic direction and overseeing the management of Funds SA; comprising seven directors, each brings diverse corporate experience and skill sets.
Mr Paul Laband
Mr Laband brings to the Board significant portfolio and investment experience from a career in investment management and asset consulting. His former roles include; Head of National Asset Management (NAM); Head of Asset Consulting at Towers Perrin Australia and Russell Investment Group (Australia) and Managing Director Asset Management at Abbey Life Investment Services in the UK, and management roles at UniSuper as Head of Public Markets (listed asset classes both domestically and globally) and subsequently Head of Strategic Tilting, contribute to his role on the Funds SA Board. Paul is currently a member of Investment Committees for Telstra Super.
Dr Bill Griggs, AM, ASM
Dr Griggs brings to the Board significant leadership and board experience; with expertise in corporate governance, people and culture, superannuation, investment and insurance. He has particular interests in managing/coping during times of uncertainty and stress, and in evidence-based decision making. He has previously held a number of Board and Chair positions in both Government and not-for-profit sectors. Bill's current Directorships include; Griggs EMS Pty Ltd; ReturntoWork SA (also a member fo their HR and Finance committes); Super SA (also Chair of the Member Services Committee); and Southern Select Super Corporation.
Ms Jane Jeffreys
Ms Jeffreys brings to the Board extensive board, executive and consulting experience in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She has significant expertise in corporate strategy, financial management, people and culture, technology, marketing and communication. Jane is currently Director of Jane Jeffreys Consulting and Iocane Pty Ltd; Chair of the West Beach Trust; Chair of Gannon Lifestyle Communities Pty Ltd; Chair of Gaming Care; Chair of Guildhouse; and Chair of Data Action Pty Ltd.
Mr Robert Patterson
Mr Patterson brings to the Board substantial private sector experience and expertise, particularly in the areas of investment management, governance and accounting. In this regard, he has held executive roles with Argo Investments Limited, including Company Secretary, Chief Executive and Managing Director. Robert is currently a Non-Executive Director of Lawguard Management Pty Ltd, Coopers Brewery Foundation Incorporated, Westminster School Foundation Incorporated and Ardmillan Place Nominees Pty Ltd.
Ms Kathryn Presser
Ms Presser brings to the Board extensive experience in all aspects of financial, risk and strategic planning. She has widespread company secretarial experience in public listed and private companies in a wide range of industries and in particular over 18 years’ in finance executive roles at Beach Energy Limited. She also has broad governance and legislative experience through company director positions. Kathryn is currently a Director of Amaero International Ltd, KP Advisory Pty Ltd, Police Credit Union SA & NT, and the South Australian Government Financing Authority (SAFA), and Council Member of the University of Adelaide and Walford Anglican School for Girls. She is also the Independent Chair of the Department of Treasury and Finance Risk and Performance Committee.
Ms Judith Smith
Ms Smith brings to the Board extensive knowledge and experience in investment and funds management, with a strong governance and risk focus. She is currently the member of a number of boards and investment committees. Judith is a Non-Executive Board Member of Scale Investors Limited; Committee Member of South Australian Venture Capital Fund; Non-Executive Director and Chair, Audit & Risk Committee of Universal Biosensors Inc.; Non-Executive Director of LUCRF Trustees; Non-Executive Director and Chair, Risk & Audit Committee of Acorn Capital Investment Fund Limited; and Member of the Industry Funds Management Investment Committee.
Ms Leah York
Ms York was appointed to the Board upon the nomination of the South Australian Government Superannuation Federation. She is currently a deputy Director (member) of the Super SA Board (and Southern Select Superannuation Corporation Board) which is responsible for administering the major superannuation schemes of the State Government agencies and statutory authorities. She is President of the South Australian Public Sector Superannuation Federation, Secretary of the Australian Education Union (SA Branch), and a Member of the Super SA Member Services Council.
