Celebrating 25 years of Funds SA
1 July 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Funds SA. Legislation passed by the South Australian Parliament on the 1st of July 1995 created Funds SA as the investment management corporation for the Government of South Australia; to invest and manage funds on behalf of the State, with the objective of achieving the highest return possible while maintaining risk at an acceptable level.
Initially, Funds SA invested only the monies of South Australian public sector superannuation schemes. Starting life with one client (Super SA), over the past two and half decades Funds SA has grown to invest on behalf of 10 institutional clients, our mandate extended to take in other approved government and public authorities in the early 2000s.
Having grown significantly from managing $2 billion in 1995, Funds SA today is supported by a highly skilled and experienced team of 50 staff, and has stewardship of more than $34 billion.
Our client base incorporates schemes that administer the superannuation funds of South Australia’s public sector employees, including those of the Metropolitan Fire Service, SA Police, and SA Ambulance. In addition, we manage the investments of a suite of insurance and endowment entities.
Our “manager of managers’ approach has resulted in strong partnerships with global investment managers, enhancing our investment reach. These global connections, combined with the capabilities and expertise of our Adelaide based team, help us drive consistent long-term investment performance with the Funds SA Balanced investment option delivering performance of 7.9% per annum over the past 25 years.
