Richard Smith, Chief Executive Officer
Richard Smith is Funds SA's Chief Executive Officer. He is responsible for leading and directing Funds SA's operations and for overseeing the development, implementation and monitoring of investment strategies for Funds SA's client accounts.
Richard was previously Chief Investment Officer (1997-2006) and an Investment Manager (1988-1997) at Funds SA.
As an Investment Manager Richard was responsible for implementing the transition of Funds SA's investment portfolio from largely internal to full external management. He focussed particularly on developing the private equity portfolio and on the structuring of the domestic and international equity portfolios including the hiring and monitoring of external investment managers.
Prior to joining Funds SA in 1988, Richard held economic analysis positions in the South Australian Government. These included project analysis and feasibility studies in a number of industry sectors.
Richard holds a Bachelor of Economics degree and a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Adelaide. He is a Senior Fellow of finsia, the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (formerly the Securities Institute of Australia).
John Piteo, Chief Financial Officer
John was appointed to the role of Chief Financial Officer in 1998. He is responsible for managing the administration of finance and investment for the Corporation. This includes financial reporting, performance measurement, custody, tax and unit pricing.
John joined Funds SA in 1995, commencing as a Finance Officer and then moving into the role of Manager, Accounting and Support Services. Before joining Funds SA, John was an auditor with the SA Auditor Generals’ Department.
He has a Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy (SA Institute of Technology) and has completed the Professional Management Program (Adelaide University). John is a member of CPA Australia and the Finance and Treasury Association.
